Sakura Japanese Restaurant

Japanese dining experience on Via Expressa

Cherry blossoms, private rooms, and a calm escape in the city.

Overview

Sakura Japanese Restaurant — a hidden gem in Luanda

The Sakura Japanese Restaurant offers a unique and immersive Japanese dining experience. From cherry blossom décor and traditional Japanese elements to private dining rooms and extras like a golf course and a spa, this is more than just a restaurant — it’s a true escape within the city.

My visit (notes + video)

The moment I stepped through the entrance of the Sakura Japanese Restaurant on Via Expressa, I was greeted by an unexpected sight — a spa to my left. I didn’t try it, but a mental note was made: “I have to come back for this.”

And then, right at the entrance, a samurai suit caught my attention, immediately setting the tone for what felt like stepping into unknown lands.

Walking further into the restaurant, I was struck by the meticulous attention to detail. The famous pink cherry blossoms scattered throughout the space, the décor resembling a charming Japanese garden, and touches of kawaii culture all around. It felt like being transported to a different world, designed to give you that Japanese vibe.

But the true highlight awaited me upstairs. That was my favorite part — private rooms designed with authentic Japanese tables and chairs, exuding an exotic aura that made everything feel special. The lighting, the colors, the atmosphere — it all worked together to make you forget you were still in Luanda. I absolutely loved it.

Entertainment adds to the experience: there’s a golf course where you can practice your swing for about €2.5/hour on weekdays and €5/hour on weekends. I also heard there are rooms for playing pool. It feels like the kind of place where you could spend an entire day.

On my visit, I kept it light — a refreshing pitaya juice and a salad (I was mid-fitness video). Next time, I’m going all in on the full culinary experience. Prices felt surprisingly reasonable, which makes a return even more tempting.
