Agostinho Neto Memorial

"The Rocket”: memory, culture & a skyline icon.

Agostinho Neto Memorial — “The Rocket”

Rising over Luanda’s skyline, the Memorial Dr. António Agostinho Neto is more than a monument — it is a living space of remembrance and culture dedicated to Angola’s first president, poet, physician and father of independence. Affectionately nicknamed the Foguetão for its striking vertical silhouette, it holds a solemn crypt beneath a ~120-metre spire and surrounds it with spaces for study and creation.

Inaugurated on 17 September 2012, the site extends across ~18 hectares, integrating a museum, exhibition galleries, a library, videotheque and training rooms. Walk the 500-metre central avenue and you’ll feel the scale — this is remembrance with momentum.

Located in Ingombotas (near Praia do Bispo), it welcomes students, families and international visitors alike — a stage for the past and a canvas for the future.
