Jahmek Contemporary Art is one of Luanda’s most dynamic platforms for contemporary art. Founded in 2018 by Mehak and Jardel Vieira, the gallery moved in 2022 to the historic Hotel Globo, where it now presents a changing programme of exhibitions, artist talks and community events.
Jahmek collaborates with established and emerging Angolan voices as well as international peers, including artists such as Kiluanji Kia Henda and Mónica de Miranda, helping connect Luanda to wider contemporary art conversations.
Whether you are new to contemporary art or already deeply interested in it, the space feels welcoming, experimental and unmistakably Luandan.
- Rotating shows: around 4 to 6 curatorial projects a year, mixing solo and group exhibitions.
- Talks & dialogues: informal conversations with artists and curators, depending on the programme.
- Studio visits: occasionally organised with local artists, on request or by announcement.
- Highlights:
- Concrete Blues by Kiluanji Kia Henda, 2019.
- Memories of a Poisoned River with the National Museum of Natural History, 2023.
- Caminho para as Estrelas by Mónica de Miranda, 2022.
Tip: the programme changes often, so their Instagram is the best place to check what is currently on.
