Miradouro da Lua (Moon Viewpoint)

Miradouro da Lua is Luanda’s most iconic viewpoint — a surreal, lunar-like cliffscape carved by wind and rain, dropping into the Atlantic. It’s the perfect photo stop on the coastal road toward Sangano and Cabo Ledo.

Why Go

  • Dramatic badlands and sweeping sea views.
  • Easy add-on to a beach/lunch day in Sangano or a Kwanza River outing.
  • Golden hour light is spectacular for photos and video.

How to Visit (from Luanda)

  • By car: ~1–1h15 south via the coastal EN100. Road is paved; last metres are dirt.
  • With a driver/guide: Combine with Sangano, Boutique Lodge Sangano, and Mangais/Kwanza River.
  • Parking: Informal, along the cliff rim — take extreme care near the edges.

Best Time

  • Late afternoon for softer light and colours.
  • Mornings are often clearer if you want crisper horizons.

What to Bring

  • Hat, water, sunscreen.
  • Closed shoes (ground can be sandy and uneven).
  • Camera/phone with extra battery or power bank.

Safety & Etiquette

  • Keep a safe distance from the edge — cliffs can be crumbly.
  • Mind your step in windy conditions and avoid overhanging sections.
  • Pack out all rubbish and leave no trace.
