Miradouro da Lua is one of Luanda’s most iconic viewpoints, known for its surreal cliff formations carved by wind and rain, dropping dramatically toward the Atlantic. It is one of the most rewarding photo stops on the coastal road toward Sangano and Cabo Ledo.

Landscape

Dramatic badlands and sweeping coastal views make it visually unforgettable.

Easy pairing

It combines naturally with beaches, lunch stops and river outings further south.

Photos and video

Golden hour brings especially beautiful colour and depth to the cliffs.

  • By car: around one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes south via the coastal EN100. The road is paved, with rougher ground near the viewpoint itself.
  • With a driver or guide: easy to combine with Sangano, Boutique Lodge Sangano and Mangais or Kwanza River stops.
  • Parking: informal, usually near the cliff rim, so extra care is essential.

Late afternoon

Softer light, warmer tones and more dramatic visual texture on the cliffs.

Morning

Often clearer if the goal is crisper horizons and a brighter, cleaner look.

  • Hat, water and sunscreen.
  • Closed shoes, because the ground can be sandy and uneven.
  • Camera or phone with extra battery or a power bank.
  • Keep a safe distance from the edge, because the cliffs can be crumbly.
  • Mind your footing in windy conditions and avoid overhanging areas.
  • Take all rubbish away and leave no trace behind.
  • Sangano and Cabo Ledo beaches.
  • Kwanza River boat or lunch stops.
  • Mangais for a calmer nature-focused stop.
